Aspiration Curriculum

Opening up opportunities
Opening up a world of opportunities!

Discovering Possibilities. Inspiring Futures. Raising Aspirations.

How can children dream about a future they have never had the opportunity to discover?

At Inkberrow Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to explore the extraordinary world of work, discover their talents and imagine the possibilities that lie ahead.

Our Aspiration Curriculum is a bespoke, distinctive and carefully designed programme that introduces every child to 42 different careers throughout their journey from Reception to Year 6. From pharmacists and engineers to journalists, architects and forensic scientists, children discover the incredible breadth of opportunities available to them.

It is about much more than choosing a future job. It is about opening doors, challenging stereotypes, developing ambition and helping children understand how their knowledge, skills and interests can make a difference in the world.

Our approach was celebrated in our April 2025 Ofsted inspection:

“The school’s ‘aspiration curriculum’ is exceptional.”

What Does an Aspiration Day Look Like?

Every half-term, children take part in a dedicated Aspiration Day, exploring a different career through four exciting learning experiences:

  • Discover the Career: Explore what professionals do, the skills and qualifications they need, and the different pathways into their chosen careers.

  • Be Inspired: Meet visiting professionals and explore the stories of inspirational people, past and present, who have shaped our world.

  • Have a Go! Step into the shoes of a professional through carefully designed, practical challenges that bring a career to life.

  • Make a Difference: Explore sustainability and real-world problems through projects that demonstrate how different careers can contribute to a better future.

A Journey That Grows With Every Child

Our curriculum is deliberately planned and sequenced, with six career experiences every year, building in complexity as children move through school. By the time they leave Inkberrow, pupils have developed an expanding understanding of academic and vocational pathways, subject options, qualifications and the world of work and the possibilities ahead.

Children also build their own Aspiration Books, which travel with them through school, providing a lasting record of their discoveries, experiences and growing ambitions which goes with them to their next stage of learning.

Our ambition is not to tell children what they should become, but to ensure that their future choices are never limited by what they have not had the opportunity to experience.

Love to Learn, Learn to Care – and Aspire to Make a Difference.
